One of the highlights of the event is always the launch of EXPANSION RECORDS LUXURY SOUL 3 CD BOX SET and previews reveal that the new set is something really special befitting the fact that this one will be the 20th edition.
Like the previous 19 Luxury Soul box sets, this new one is a wonderful mix of the very best smooth and sophisticated soul from the last few years alongside some choice oldies and a smattering of brand new tunes like ‘I Love You’ from super session singer Lucita Jules in tandem with Foster Rogue. This is a sweet and lovely homage to the Delfonics. Also new (we think ) is a wonderful update of the gorgeous ‘Love’s Still The Answer’ from Ronald Isley. This originally appeared on Big Ron’s stunning 2003 album with Burt Bacharach. Enjoy it here in an updated duet format with the duettist being Gloria Loring (Robin Thicke’s mother, by the way). Paradise Projex have a newie too – a cover of Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’. Fans of Kloud 9 will be delighted by the inclusion of another fresh tune, ‘Falling In Love’ with the expected stunning vocals from Howard Hewett.
Howard’s not the only “big” name on offer. Here you can enjoy tracks from people like Will Downing, Cornell CC Carter, Jeff Lorber (in tandem with Brian McKnight), Victor Haynes, Gwen Dickey, Hil St Soul and the Sed Soul/Cool Million team. Indeed think of any big contemporary soul tune from the last 12 months or so and you can guarantee that they’re included here; so think of things like Georgie B’s ‘Soul Night’, Everis’ ‘Get Ur Numba’ and Steve Nichols’ What The Heart Wants’ – they’re all here along with a lot more!
