THE PRINCIPLES OF JOY are a funky, French soul band currently working on a new album – their third and a follow up to their acclaimed 2021 set ‘9-3’. To whet appetites, the outfit, who are marshalled by keyboardist Ludo Bors (who’s also known by the wonderful moniker, Norman Smuggler!) have just released the set’s first single. It’s a big, tough, feisty cover of Sharon Jones’ ‘Your Thing Is A Drag’’ which first appeared on her 2005 LP, ‘Naturally’.
On the last message we had from Monsieur Smuggler we learned that the POJ feature two compatible vocalists – Sarah Ibrahim and Rachel Yarabou. Not sure who’s out front on ‘Drag’ but whoever it is, she gives Ms Jones a funky run for her money!
