Just last summer, San Diego-based trio THEE SACRED SOULS (drummer/songwriter Alex Garcia, bassist/songwriter Sal Samano and vocalist Josh Lane) thrilled us with their eponymous Daptone debut LP – a lovely take on the classic 60s and 70s harmony group sound delivered in a thoroughly contemporary way.
The Souls are all set to release a new single via Daptone and ‘Running Away’ is a little different to the sound of the album. You see where the LP was mainly downtempo, this one is quite pacey – fast in an almost “Northern” way. It’s still a lovely retro sound though… classic falsetto lead, sweet harmonies and irresistible rhythms that in places has the magic ‘Tighten Up’ feel. It’s a quite lovely confection and a pleasing sonic escape from life’s tribulations.
The 7” release of ‘Running Away’ offers ‘Love Come Easy’ on the B side. This was one of the key album cuts and delivers a sweet Low Rider sound.
The guys have also just released a live EP and 20-minute concert video with AudioTree featuring selections from their debut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp_VeK–yvE
