Despite winning two MOBOS, UK saxophonist YOLANDA BROWN remains something of a well-kept musical secret. She won the coveted MOBOS in 2008 and 2009 for her contributions to UK jazz and since then she’s worked with THE TEMPTATIONS, COURTNEY PINE, DAVID SANBORN, KENNY G, DIANA KRALL, MICA PARIS and JOOLS HOLLAND. She made her debut recording in 2009 with ‘A Step Closer’ which won critical acclaim.
Endorsed by Yamaha, the instrument maker appointed her their UK Class Band Ambassador in February 2011 and she’s also worked for the Prince’s Trust and the Mayor of London’s Charity; and all that on top of an Honorary Doctorate of Arts conferred on her by The University of East London.
Despite the busy schedule YOLANDA’S been busy putting together her second full LP. Entitled ‘April Showers, May Flowers’, the album is due for release on February 13th on Black Grape Records. Expect the album to have a predominant jazz flavour, of course, but we’re told we can also enjoy generous soul flavours too and, for the first time, YOLANDA takes on a couple of vocal tracks.
To support the album MS. BROWN is undertaking an extensive tour. The dates are…
