Many of you would have caught DEVA MAHAL on the last ‘Later With Jools Holland’. The feisty soulstress is busy promoting her acclaimed long player, ‘Run Deep’. To help with the promotion, Deva (the daughter of legendary blues man Taj Mahal and Inshirah Mahal, an influential dancer, artist and educator) has also commissioned a remix of one of the album’s key cuts – ‘Wicked’.
To sort the tweak Deva has gone for the best – DJ Spen and Reelsoul – and between them they create a new shifting, synth heavy soundscape riding over retro soulful house beats and Spens’s characteristic loping electro bass line. Insistent and hypnotic.
