Soul fans know all about the Gospel roots of WHITNEY HOUSTON. Her magnificent voice was developed in the church and despite her trials and tribulations her heart was always in gospel music and it profoundly influenced her art.
On March 24th Arista/Legacy Recordings will be releasing some very special material that shows Whitney in full gospel flow. ‘I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston’ is an album of gospel songs dear to the singer, with 6 of the inclusions previously unreleased. Amongst the tracks are Ms Houston’s versions of gospel standards like ‘Jesus Loves Me’ and ‘His Eye Is on the Sparrow’ alongside songs like ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. Also included is a song called ‘Testimony’ which has just been released as the album’s lead single.
The album is being released with the full cooperation of the Whitney Houston estate. Executor Pat Houston says: “Her love for gospel music permeates through every song with love, compassion and conviction. To love Whitney is to love what she represents to all that love the gospel. I salute this project knowing that Whitney always stood on a solid rock for her love of gospel music. I hope you enjoy this amazing project that was simply a labour of love for all involved.”
