‘Whatcha Wanna Do?’ is the question asked in the title of a lovely, new single from Philadelphia soul man ROBERT GEE. Robert, as is evident from the single, is a supreme smooth soul stylist who first came to our attention back in 2016 with his ‘Robert Gee -The EP’ mini set. The lead cut, the gentle R&B swayer, ‘All I Ever Wanted’ tuned plenty of heads amongst the sophisticated soul crowd and we soon learned that Mr Gee had quite a CV. Discovered as a teenager by Patti Labelle, he debuted back 2008 with the album ‘All My Love’ which won him Best R&B Male Vocal Performance from The Black Music Association. Since then he’s worked constantly, sharing stages with people like Vesta Williams, Teena Marie, Kashif, Loose Ends and the Emotions.
Right now Robert is working out of London and his new single, the aforementioned ‘Whatcha Wanna Do?’ will be released on the UK’s premier modern soul label Expansion. The cut is a collaboration with producer/song writer Philippe “Pump It Up” Scemema and between them they craft a polished, sophisticated soul ballad that might recall the sensuality and sensitivity of people like Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway – yes, it comes recommended!
And though Robert is , for the time being at any rate, a Londoner, he never forgets his Philadelphia roots. He says: “Because I am a native of an iconic soul city like Philly I feel it is my artistic birthright and blessing to lay hold of the soul/R&B torch and carry it forward with pride, artistic integrity and straight up dignity!”
ROBERT GEE; Whatcha Wanna Do?’ will be released on October 13th via Expansion Records.
