Fans of Canada’s premier soul and funk band CRACK O’ DAWN will know all about the soulful qualities of lead singer MICHAEL DUNSTON. He possesses a remarkable old school soul voice that in quality and timbre is right up there with people like Phil Perry, Will Downing – that’s right, warm, sonorous and convincing.
For the moment Michael has stepped outside of the band for a new single and he’s really jumped the gun with this one…. ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Christmas’. Yes, it’s still October but Mr D clearly believes in getting in nice and early… and why not!
In truth, this is a lovely soul song – beautifully delivered by Michael with some classy sax from (I’m guessing) one of the Crack o’ Dawn team. Lyrically the song delivers some old Christmas cliches but also cleverly references plenty of the problems that the world’s facing right now.
If we are going to be allowed to celebrate Christmas this year and you want just one great soul song to celebrate with, ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Christmas’ comes with a big SJF recommendation.
