WAYNE’S WORLD!

On 23 August 2024, Blue Note Records is set to release a previously unissued recording by the late jazz saxophonist and composer, Wayne Shorter. It’s called Celebration, Volume 1, and will be the first of several archive releases for Blue Note Shorter curated before his death at 89 in 2023.

The new album captures Shorter in 2014, still at the peak of his powers and promoting the previous year’s album Without A Net, playing with his quartet (pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Brian Blade) at Sweden’s Stockholm Jazz Festival. The track listing includes a new single, ‘Edge of the World (End Title),’ Shorter’s interpretation of the theme from Arthur B. Rubinstein’s soundtrack to the 1983 movie War Games. The set list also features the tracks ‘Zero Gravity,’ ‘Orbits’ – a track Shorter famously wrote while playing with Miles Davis in the 1960s -and ‘She Moves Through The Fair.’

Three further Blue Note releases also Shorter’s legacy: on 3rd July, the label releases a Tone Poet audiophile edition of his 1970 LP Odyssey of Iska followed by a Classic Vinyl edition of his 1964 album JuJu on 16 August. Just before that on the 9th of August, a Blue Note Authorized Dealer exclusive blue vinyl reissue of his classic 1964 album Speak No Evil (1964) will be available at participating independent record stores.

Celebration, Volume 1 is released on the 23rd of August. It is available for pre-order now on limited edition Blue Note Store exclusive colour vinyl, black vinyl, CD, and digital download.
