
BEAU WILLIAMS is something of a soul veteran. He’s been around since the 70s when he worked as “Bobo Mr Soul”. He assumed the Beau Williams persona in the 80s and recorded for Capitol before embracing Gospel. A couple of his tracks surfaced on Expansion compilations, but he remains something of an unknown quantity in the UK and Europe, working, chiefly, on the US gospel circuit.
That gospel tag might come as a surprise after you’ve listened to his latest single, a properly, old school funk workout ‘White Flag’. The tune is straight out of the James Brown stable and betrays Beau’ s experience of the music biz. Many young bands try to create their own funk – but most don’t quite hit it off.
