Laura, who was raised in downriver Detroit, works in collaboration with her husband George Friend and in 2016 the duo won their first Detroit Music Award for “Outstanding Blues Songwriters.” For this new album the band decamped to Magnetic Recording in Pontiac Michigan and using analogue equipment they’ve worked hard to create a sound that’s vintage R&B, mixed with hard-hitting soul and garnished with modern juke-joint blues… think Sharon Jones meets authentic, early Northern soul with a tough funk undertow.
