The name MATT COOPER (above) may not be that familiar to many but he has a remarkable musical CV. He’s been musical director of Incognito and collaborated on the STR4TA project with Incognito’s Bluey. He’s also worked regularly with Gilles Peterson and pursues his own career as OUTSIDE.
As Outside, Matt is preparing the release of a new album, ‘Almost Out’. The LP (released April, almost out, you see!) will be Outside’s 6th studio long player and it’s preceded by a single, ‘Then It Hits You’. This one is a rather unusual sound but knowing Cooper/Outside’s work that’s to be expected.
‘Then It Hits You’ proffers a cinematic sweep and features melodic keys, rolling, syncopated drums and a big production. Joining Cooper is Marie Dahlstrom delivering emotive, soulful vocals. The PR people describe the vibe as cinematic dubstep with beats and keys. Make of that what you will. Marie Dahlstrom, by the way, is a Danish vocalist, producer and songwriter, who released her critically acclaimed album ‘Like Sand’ in 2020, She’s fast winning a reputation as one of the most interesting voices in underground R&B.
