As the contentious US Presidential Election looms nearer and nearer, more and more personalities are throwing their weight behind their preferred candidate.
Latest to join the fray is Motown alumnus, MICKEY STEVENSON. Mickey needs no introduction here save to say that he’s a pivotal figure in soul history and he’s s credited as one of the principal architects of the Motown Sound. He worked with all the top names in the Gordy stable and penned countless Motown classics including ‘Dancing in the Street’ (that one with a certain Marvin Gaye and Ivy Jo Hunter, of course).
You can probably guess that in this election run up, Mickey’s backing Kamala Harris and to that end he’s just released a new song – ‘Put Kamala In the White House’. The lead vocal’s down to his wife, Michelle who Mickey says embodies today’s modern woman – just like Ms Harris.
Sonically, the backing track’s a little too “synthetic” but Michelle delivers convincingly. The song also cleverly references ‘Dancing In The Street’ and incorporates snatches of Martin Luther King’s speeches. This one actually grows on you!
