Collectors of archive soul will be interested in a new 3CD, 90 track collection from Fantastic Voyage Records called ‘Voodoo Voodoo’. Compiled by music historian Dave Penny, the set collects together the work of female pop, jazz and R&B singers between the years 1949 – 1959.
Amongst the featured artists are Dinah Washington, Big Maybelle, Ruth Brown and Big Mama Thornton. Collectable material includes Little Esther’s ‘If It’s News To You’, Marie Knight’s ‘Grasshopper’ and LaVern Baker’s ‘Voodoo Voodoo’ which gives the album its title.
