SOUL TUNE RECORDS describe themselves as “the sound of Stockholm” – that’s right Stockholm, Sweden. The label is run by Niclas Wretelid who says his aim is “to release classic soul and funk music from the heart”, adding “ Soul Tunes goal is to become a significant player on the European soul scene.”
Well, we might have to wait and see about that till the label unleashes its big, upcoming album, ‘The Soul Of The Viking’ which is credited to the SOUL TUNE ALLSTARS – who, we’re guessing, must be the studio band – led by Niclas and Finnish guitarist Mikko Räisänen (of the band, Chicken Grass). The AllStars have just released the LP’s first single – pairing ‘Looking For Trouble’ with ‘Oh Your Love’. The former is a gutsy blaxploitation throwback with a sturdy male voice and a big production. The latter is much, much sweeter – a classic old school ballad with a lovely, convincing vocal from, we think, Maria Sanchez. On the strength of this one , Soul Tune might well become a significant player. The single’s out now!
