CHINA PAIGE is a Californian jazz and soul singer who now works out of Paris. Earlier this year she released a collaborative album with French band, the Jeromes but right now she’s promoting her own long player, ‘Up With Love’.
The album is a concise 8 tracker and it’s easy to hear why it’s picking up plenty of support from European/UK soul tastemakers. Tracks winning attention seem to be the dreamy, meandering ‘What Is Love’, the gently percussive ‘Morning Sunshine (shades of Sade here) and the pacier ‘Special’.
Interestingly there’s a moody cover of George Michael’s ‘Jesus To A Child’ which is handled sensitively and soulfully. Little wonder divas like Diana Ross and Mary Wilson singled out China as one of their preferred backing singers .
