Philly retro label, SOCIETY HILL (helmed by soul vet Butch Ingram) are currently promoting two singles aimed squarely at lovers of old school soul and dance.
First up is a new version of Loleatta Holloway’s classic ‘Hit And Run’. Artist on this one is soulstress KAT FONTAINE, ex lead singer with True Example, who’s been working in Europe for some time. Back Stateside, she’s teamed up with Society Hill to work on an album and the cover of ‘Hit And Run’ is the lead single. We’re never going to say this one’s up there with the original, but Ms F gives her soulful all ably supported by the full production of the SOCIETY HILL ORCHESTRA…
… and speaking of that “orchestra”, they currently have a single out too -their version of Van McCoy’s perennial ‘The Hustle’. This cover is not a million miles away from the classic original version … finger-clicking, head nodding and foot tappingly good! As with ‘Hit And Run’, Ingram and his team clearly don’t believe in tampering too much with classics, but as we’ve opined lovers of old school soul and dance might just want to investigate.
