‘Unbreakable’ is the new album from Swedish jazz trombonist NILS LANDGREN who fronts a band simply called the FUNK UNIT. Nils explains that the long player’s title stems for the fact that the band have been together for quite some time now and though they’ve had ups and downs they’re still “Unbreakable”… aah!

Helping the sextet out on the album are two big name players – Ray Parker jr. and Randy Brecker. Parker’s guitar guests on five cuts – the title tune, a cover of Allen Toussaint’s ‘Just A Kiss Away’, ‘Stars In Your Eyes’, ‘Bow Down’ and a tasty take on Marvin Gaye’s ‘Rockin’ After Midnight’ on which he is also the featured vocalist and it’s Brecker’s trumpet solo on that too!

The 10 tracker offers a peculiarly European take on funk with just a nod to Wayne Henderson and Kool and the Gang.

NILS LANDGREN FUNK UNIT; UNBREAKABLE is released on Act 25 on 30th June.
