TWO’S COMPANY…

If you’re a serious music YOUTUBER, you might have come across TATIANA EVA-MARIE. The Swiss-born chanteuse, who now works out of New York, has amassed almost 400,000 YOUTUBE subscribers who enjoy her personal videos and work with the Avalon Jazz Band.

However, Tatiana now steps out from behind the computer screen and  keyboard one more time  to release a real “record” (her seventh)   – ‘Two At The Most’ – which, as you can guess from the title, is a simple two-hander (mostly!). The singer’s partner on the 10 tracker is pianist JEREMY CORREN and between them they deliver an intriguing and intimate take on  the Great American Songbook. The songs are all very familiar – amongst  them, ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘You Go To My Head’, ‘The End Of A Love Affair’, ‘I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face’ et al but in these new, stripped back versions fresh perspectives open up.

Throughout, Tatiana’s voice is sweet and warm, a perfect vehicle for this romantic selection of songs while Corren’s uncluttered piano accompaniment offers just the right amount of support. On two tracks (‘They’ll Never Believe Me’ and I’ve Grown accustomed To Her Face’) the  duo are joined by guest vocalist Mark Buchan who adds a little variety to proceedings and oddly makes the twosome of the title a trio!

Between them, singer(s) and pianist create a classic, late night, retro, jazz lounge vibe – with a whiff of the Parisian art scene of the mid-20th century about it  –  maybe a nod to the Tatians’s French and Balkan heritage
