GIDEON KING & CITY BLOG (GKCB) is a New York based Soul/Pop collective who impressed the blue-eyed soul crowd with their ‘Dealing Master’. Their latest offering is ‘Turn Off The Sky’ which offers a different flavour – more Americana than blue-eyed soul but still it packs plenty of interest and intrigue.
King says the tune, “blends complex chord sequences, rhythms, and abstract lyrical patterns and was inspired by the lyrics of Bono, some of the sonic qualities of Radiohead, and the abstraction of the unconscious.” But don’t let that put you off. The song’s not over-heavy; indeed it’s a pleasant evocation of the stillness of a cool spring night. Now doesn’t that sound better?
The vocal on the track by the way is down to Michael Mayo and the song’s from the band’s upcoming ‘Splinters’ EP.
