While we eagerly await the August release of the next long player from new age gospel stars, THE HARLEM GOSPEL TRAVELERS, the band have released another single from it. It’s ‘Searching For The Truth’ and it follows the Travelers’ last single, their version of the Truimphs’ ‘We Don’t Love Enough’.
‘Searching For The Truth’ is another track taken from the group’s back catalogue @ the Numero Group and like We Don’t Love Enough’, it’s another cover. The original ’Searching…’ came via Detroit’s Dwain Vinyard in the 70s. We’re told that Vinyard wrote the song (seeking some kind of faith) when he was trying to give up smoking! We believe it worked and he went on to become a preacher man! The original 7” was released on his on Vinyard Records and now fetches sums of almost £300!
The song’s theme is that though most people already have what they actually need, the modern tendency is to constantly search for more – more love, more acceptance, and real truth; but that search often clouds the fact that the answer we all seek is just believing in yourself . That message is perfectly suited to the mission statements, sound and style of the Gospel Travelers. The record is multi-textured with soulful vocal interplay, auguring well for the album.
This one’s out now via Colemine and don’t forget the band will be doing a one-off UK date at the 229 Club, in London on July 28th too.
