GEMMA AND THE TRAVELLERS is a French soul combo – from Brittany to be precise! They are Gemma M: Lead Vocals & Songwriter; Robert P: Guitar, Songwriter & Producer; Marcus C: Drums Alan B: Bass; And Kevin H: Saxophone (Tenor & Baritone) and they’re readying the release of their new album ‘True Love’ for May 24th.
The 11 tracker is the follow up to their 2017 set, ‘Too Many Rules And Games’ which won support from tastemakers like Craig Charles. The new album offers more of the same contemporary take on classic soul – rough, tough music that channels the Amy Winehouse/Daptone sound… you know – funky grooves, booming beats, chunky guitars, parping brass and feisty vocals! Heard best on the new long player on ‘Do What You Want’ and ‘Better Late Than Never’. There’s a nod to the Northern soul scene with ‘Turn Yourself Around’ while the nearest the album gets to a ballad is the dramatic album title cut.
Gemma says: “This album is about love, about fighting for human rights, accepting that we are not perfect human beings, enjoying life doing what we really want to do even if sometimes we think it is too late, but it’s better late than never. Also, I talk about the real love, the one that has never gone, the one which gives you the power and strength every day of your life, the one which is always present, even when you do not see it anymore but then you realize that it is there in front of you for the rest of your life! Love is the answer, love is everything. Love conquers hate! Love is Funk & Soul!”
