Drum supremo TONY ALLEN’S latest release is a four track EP tribute to his idol ART BLAKEY. ‘Tribute to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers’ was recorded in Paris and on it Allen drives a seven piece through ‘Moanin”, ‘A Night In Tunisia’, ‘Politely’ and ‘Drum Thunder Suite’ and as you’d expect, they all receive, in varying degrees, an Afrobeat spin.
The mini album is released on Blue Note records and is a preview of the drummer’s forthcoming debut long player for the legendary label
