TONY MIDDLETON DIES…

Various sources are reporting the death of US singer TONY MIDDLETON. It seems that he passed away on Wednesday, 7th February. Reports suggest he was suffering from chronic kidney disease. He was 89.

Born in Virginia, Middelton is best remembered  as the  singer and composer in the Willows, a legendary doo-wop group founded in Harlem, who were successful during the early sixties. After the doo-wop bubble burst he went on to act on Broadway and pursue a moderately successful solo career recording for labels like Mala, A&M and Scepter. Several of his solo records became popular on the Northen soul scene – notably  the moody ‘Paris Blues’, the gentle ‘Drifting’ and the driving ‘To The Ends Of The Earth’. It’s also thought that he recorded the original version  of Burt Bacharach’s ‘Little Red Book’.
