G. MACKEY is a US soul singer who first made a name for himself as “the singing drummer” who went on to work with Holland-Dozier-Holland (never heard of ‘em!)
Mackey then joined a Bay Area band, The Together Band who won themselves a bag full of awards including The Budweiser Song Writers Contest . Right now Mr M is striking out on his own and his latest single, a steamy, sultry ‘This Is The Night’ is winning plenty of plays Stateside.
It’s a big, romantic ballad in the manner of Teddy P, though there’s an O’Jays’ feel too. The cut, which, extols the virtues of a night of passion (“sexy negligees”, “rose petals”, “champagne bathing” etc – you get the picture?) won’t please the woke brigade – but our “G” doesn’t sound bothered. He knows what he wants and singing like this he just might get it! By the way, he also insists that this significant other turns off the cell phone! Great idea! Out now!
