TITO JACKSON – scion of the mighty Jackson music family – died on Sunday, 15th September, aged 70. Reports suggest that the musician suffered a heart attack in New Mexico whilst on a road trip moving some of his antique car collection to his new home in Oklahoma.
Born in 1953, Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson was the third oldest child amongst the Jackson siblings and, of course, he was a founding member of the Jackson 5 who formed in 1964 – going on to sell more than 150 million records. With his brothers he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Alongside work in the family band, Tito also pursued a solo career delivering a more blues orientated sound and he enjoyed his first solo hit in 2016 with ‘Get It Baby’. He also continued to tour with Jackie, Jermaine and Marlon as “the Jacksons”.
Tito Jackson has three sons with his ex-wife, Dee Dee Martes (the couple divorced in 1988). The boys – Taj, Taryll and TJ – formed their own musical group, 3T.
All Tito’s siblings, other than Michael who died aged 50 in June 2009, are still alive. His ex-wife was murdered in 1994. He leaves his three sons and nine grandchildren.
