‘Thinkin’ About You’ is the wonderful debut single from CARMY LOVE. We last heard of Londoner Carmy when she worked with New Street Adventure on their 2014 Acid Jazz album, ‘No Hard Feelings’. She provided classy BVs and the quintet brought her in because of her grounding in gospel. Since then, Ms Love has worked with Cool Million and the House Gospel Choir but now she feels the time’s right to step out on her own and with ‘Thinkin’ About You’ she’s doing just that in some style!
Growing up in a family where mum and dad were both DJs, Ms Love was surrounded by classic soul sounds and soul’s rich heritage shines all the way through on ‘Thinkin’ About You’. Carmy and her team say they were trying to create the vibe of 60s and 70s crossover soul and they’ve succeeded admirably. The up tempo and brassy ‘Thinkin’ About You’ is a delight from start to finish. It oozes sass and soulful attitude and the band (the New Street Adventure team) capture the mood perfectly while Ms L’s vocal betrays her gospel apprenticeship.
Carmy’s ‘Thinkin’ About You’ is out now digitally and there’s a vinyl 7” on the way via Big AC Records. On that one you can enjoy the instrumental version too and that sort of reminds me of how Barbara Acklin took ‘Soulful Strut’ and turned it into ‘Am I The Same Girl’. Carmy Love’s ‘Thinkin’ About You’ isn’t like ‘Am The Same Girl’ but it’s clearly coming from the same place. If you really know soul music, you’ll understand! Recommended!
