1972’s ‘Think’ by Lynn Collins and produced by someone called James Brown is a proper soul and funk anthem. Loved by the cognoscenti, it was never a huge hit but over the years it’s been sampled to death by the hip hop fraternity (think – geddit! – Roxanne Shante and DJ E-Z Rock for starters). Indeed the stats book tell us that ‘Think’ has been sampled 1908 times and is the No.3 most-sampled record of all time!
Right now it’s being revived again – this time by D J SPEN and THOMMY DAVIS for Mr S’s Quantize label and to re-ignite the spirit of Lyn Collins, the duo have drafted in one of dance music’s top divas – BARBARA TUCKER.
45 years since the original, this new version – in its main mix, at least, – stays true to that 1972 template. However, if you want something a little different there are house and dub mixes too. But whichever mix you choose you’ll enjoy a fiery authentic vocal from Ms Tucker.
As an extra touch of respect to the original record, this new version comes in 7″ vinyl complete with that distinctive old school orangey red Polydor livery.
All the mixes will be available October 13th
