Legendary US vocal trio, The Three Degrees – whose glitz, glamour and sweet harmonies helped put Philadelphia on the soul map in the early ’70s with Gamble & Huff-helmed hits such as ‘When Will I See You Again’ – will be touring the UK in the New Year. Not only that but the trio – officially the longest running female group of all time (according to the Guinness Book Of Records) – notch up their fifty-second year together next year. Comprising founder member Helen Scott with Valerie Holiday (who joined in 1967) and relative newcomer Freddie Pool, the trio will be performing 20 dates in January and February.
Says Valerie Holiday: “For us, it is still exciting and we still enjoy our work. We are blessed with a wide age group appeal….from fifteen to sixty-five. We have opened a lot of doors for other entertainers. In some cases, we may not have always succeeded but we have never given up. It still amazes me when we see teenagers singing along with our songs. And yet we still have the fans who have grown with us.”
