Universal/Hip-O Select’s epic look at JAMES BROWN’S singles output continues with the release of a tenth volume. This new two CD, 36 tracker focuses on the years 1975 – 1979 when, though the Godfather’s profile might not have been as high as he’d liked, he still delivered – with a steady release schedule and a punishing touring itinerary.
Amongst the classics on this set are ‘Get Up Offa That Thing’ and ‘It’s Too Funky In Here’ but – as always – collectors will relish the oddities and rarities. These number ‘Dooley’s Junkyard Dogs’ (a tribute to the University Of Georgia’s football team!) and a cover of ELVIS PRESLEY’S ‘Love Me Tender’. Most collectable item maybe is ‘Everybody Wanna Get Funky One More Time’ – a single that was only on release for a short time on the People label.
As with all releases in the series, this one comes with an extensive essay, full track summaries, a timeline and rare photos and memorabilia.
