After what seems like a long time (13 years to be exact!) KHARI CABRAL & JIVA are all set to release a new album… ‘5’.
The collection was prefaced earlier this year via the release of three tracks that underlined what we’d been missing. There was the solid ‘Show Me The Way’, the sprightly ‘I Believe’ and the jazzy instrumental, ‘North Node’.
Those three cuts still sound good amidst the LP, though focus cut seems to be a delightfully gentle ‘Heaven’s Design’ with hushed but soulful vocals from Lindsey Webster. If you know Ms Webster’s work you’ll know the sound – on the cusp of smooth jazz and sophisticated soul. A perfect lazy summer afternoon sound.
Elsewhere we believe the album also offers a cover of James Mason’s 1977 jazz-fusion classic ‘Sweet Power Of Your Embrace’ which, I guess, kind of shows where Khari and the Jiva team are coming from. On this new version the lovely Lizz Wright takes the Clarice Taylor vocal.
