SHALAMAR are fondly remembered in the UK for lighting up both the charts and dance floors in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The legendary R&B and disco vocal trio racked up 18 UK hits in all, beginning in 1977 with ‘Uptown Festival’ and ending in 1986 with a remix version of an earlier Top 10 smash, ‘A Night To Remember.’ In between they also broke into the Top 10 with ‘I Can Make You Feel Good,’ ‘There It Is,’ and ‘Dead Giveaway,’ all recorded for the late Dick Griffey’s Solar label.
All the above-mentioned songs and may more can be found on a new anthology of the vocal trio’s work called ‘Gold,’ whose release will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the group’s classic line-up of Howard Hewitt, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel. As well as a 42-track 3-CD version (which also includes a disc of 12-inch mixes), eight highlights from the set will also be available on a 180gm gold-coloured vinyl LP.
‘Gold’ by Shalamar is available from July 5th via the Demon Music Group’s Crimson imprint.
