For too long the wonderful New Orleans soul singer BETTY HARRIS has been neglected. Things might change with the release by Soul Jazz records of a 17 track retrospective, ‘BETTY HARRIS, THE LOST QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS SOUL’. The album contains the best of her Sansu recordings including a remarkable version of the New Orleans staple. ‘Ride Your Pony’. Even a quick listen to Betty’s version reveals that the lady’s not talking equestrianism here! Indeed Betty Harris is one of those rare singers who manages to imbue everything she works on with a smouldering sexual undertow… a proper soul queen!
