CURTIS HAYWOOD is a Brooklyn born and based smooth jazz sax man. He has three albums under his belt – all showing his love and respect for soul, jazz and gospel. Right now he’s promoting a new single – ‘Last Dance’ which is among the most added new singles on the Billboard Radio chart.
Easy to hear why – it’s smooth and soulful with an insistent and catchy melody. That inherent soulfulness surely stems from the tune’s poignant back story. You see for the last two years Haywood cared for his mother as she struggled with cancer. Eventually he knew he had to let go if only to relieve her of the crippling pain she endured. He tells us that in that moment of clarity, he imagined dancing with her one final time… thus the music of ‘Last Dance’ was birthed.
Sounds sombre? Well maybe, but the tune is actually optimistic featuring a smooth interplay between Haywood’s soprano saxophone and Steve Oliver’s guesting guitar. Yes, it’s downtempo – but the invitation to dance is still there. Out now!
