It’s been a long ten years since we’ve had a new album from MICA PARIS (now a star of EastEnders, we believe!). But on 27th November, she’ll be releasing a new set, ‘Gospel’.
Gospel music has always been a passion for Ms P. Fans will know that she was brought up on the music and sang in her south London church in Lewisham every weekend with her grandparents. Then, of course there was her successful BBC TV series ‘Gospel According to Mica: The Story of Gospel Music in Six Songs’. The logical outcome of that was bound to be Mica’s own Gospel album which she’s put together in tandem with the Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir.
The album offers Mica’s new interpretations of Gospel classics, new material, and Gospel-inflected treatments of things like U2’s ‘Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ and Rag N Bone Man’s ‘Human’. Avid radio listeners might well have already heard the set’s first single – a version of Labi Siffre’s ‘Something Inside So Strong’.
Mica says: “Recording this album has been a watershed moment in my life. My life over the last 32 years has been one of triumphs and challenges. Going back to my gospel roots has given me hope and faith at a time we all need it and I hope others will feel the same. The music industry is one of the toughest businesses to be in. My love life has been equally traumatic, and my heart’s been broken over and over. This journey and my reflections on my journey with gospel music have taught me a lot. In these uncertain times it’s the power of music that will get us through this. Some of the best songs in life have brought me through the toughest periods of isolation.
