KARATE BOOGALOO is a quirky Aussie soul/funk/jazz band – an off shoot of the Melbourne outfit The Cactus Channel. I’m guessing that they take their name from Jerry O’s classic soul cut ‘Karate Boogaloo’ but I’m not sure. The four piece began by specialising in idiosyncratic versions of well know tunes and they released them on what they called their ‘
Right now, they’re moving in a slightly different direction with a moody, atmospheric tune, The Early Bird Catches. This one’s dark and eerie before a gear change towards the end. It’s typical of what we know of this band.. and it’s their first release in collaboration with leading indie label, Colemine.
