NILZA COSTA is a Brazilian singer who’s just released her second long player, ‘Roots’. The ten track song cycle explores what it’s like for people to be torn from their homelands and though that sounds melancholic, Ms Costa believes that the album also offers hope and optimism.

Musically, the album’s roots are in Afro-Jazz while some of the lyrics are delivered in Yoruba… a language through which Nilza stresses her ancestry and spirituality.
