‘The Chase’ is a successful UK quiz show – it also happens to be the title of the new single from Southern retro soul band, BONNEVILLE.
The band is essentially a duo – lead singer, Wes McGee, and guitarist, Jeff Hayashi and they specialise in delivering classic, soulful, raw, rootsy music.
The pairing tell us that their inspiration is the classic Southern soul of the 60s and 70s and to ensure authenticity, they travelled down to FAME @ Muscle Shoals to record their second album, ‘ Flying Machine’.
The LP’s lead single, the aforementioned ’The Chase’, is maybe an oddity (given that the band features a fine singer). You see, ‘The Chase’ is instrumental!. It’s a funky homage to 1970s car chase scenes in urban thriller movies – i.e. a blaxploitation tribute. Think ‘Shaft’!
Jeff Hayashi says: “‘The Chase’ captures the essence of 1970s cinematographic crime/action films such as ‘Dirty Harry,’ ‘Shaft,’ and ‘Streets of San Francisco’, Visualize a car chase from ‘Starsky & Hutch’ speeding through the streets of Manhattan or San Francisco. As the only instrumental track Bonneville has recorded to date, it highlights everyone’s individual talent while being true to the classic Bonneville sound.”
Featuring the cream of the current Muscle Shoals session team, ‘The Chase’ is out now!
