TEMPTIN’ COVER….

BRANDON WATTZ is a US soul man who, though born in Germany, works in and around L.A having moved there from Birmingham, Alabama. We first came across him via his excellent reading of the Spinners’ ‘Ghetto Child’ on Preston Glass’s ‘Love and Compassion’ collection. Then came his own album, ‘Feelin’ Some Kinda Way’ – a smooth and sophisticated soul set with plenty of old school flavours.

For his latest single, Brandon has gone back down the covers route and he’s  chosen a wonderful Temptations’ oldie on which to show off his  vocal prowess. Tune in question is ‘My Love Is True (Truly For You)’ which first appeared on the Emperors of Soul’s ‘Truly For You’ LP in 1984. As a single, it hit no 2 on the US R&B charts.

For his version Brandon uses the simpler title ‘Truly For You’ and, wisely, doesn’t stray too far from the original, He channels a wonderful Ron Tyson and for lovers of smooth, sophisticated, classy soul, this  new ‘Truly For You’ ticks all the right boxes. Out now!
