Remember the DOGGETT BROTHERS? Sure you do! Drummer Carl and guitarist Greg came storming out of the flatlands of East Anglia a while back and have released three albums featuring vocalists such as Kenny Thomas, Nate James and Jarrod Lawson. The albums were all critically acclaimed and sold particularly well in Japan. The duo built a great following particularly in London and played some notable sold out shows at The Jazz Café. The soulful/jazzy quality of the music didn’t surprise anyone who knew anything about the family. The boys’ dad was jazz drummer and Carl and Greg grew up in a household filled with the sounds of soul and jazz.
For the moment, guitar ace, Greg is going out on his own and he’s gearing up to release his debut single – a classy, contemporary soul-jazz-fusion affair, ‘First Flight’… the sound that Greg grew up with, but here delivered with a modern twist. Helping Mr D to deliver is acclaimed Shakatak bassist, George Anderson and brass players David Howes and Andy Nimmo. Oh, and we need to mention that brother Carl is behind the drum kit. The whole thing is topped with a sumptuous vocal from Francisca Thomas (yes, Kenny’s missus!)
‘First Flight’ is a classy, contemporary fusion and will be good to go in October and Greg tells us that he wanted “to create genuine authentic jazz funk for the real lovers. I want the listener to ‘feel’ the depth of the music, so everything is live. “ We think he’s succeeded. Check it out for yourselves!
