Illinois R&B soul siren-turned-actress SYLEENA JOHNSON – daughter of legendary soul man, SYL JOHNSON – returns in September with a new long player, ‘Chapter V: Underrated,’ for the Shanachie label. It’s proceeded by a sassy new single, ‘A Boss,’ of which the singer says: “This song empowers women to be strong and demand what they want from a relationship. The lyrics say, ‘He can get it (my heart that is) if he is a Boss like me.’ The meaning is that you want your partner to do all of the things that you are doing to better yourself as a person, career wise or any other way.”

Away from music and sexual politics, Johnson is filming the pilot for a new Stateside reality show called ‘R&B Housewives,’ which also features fellow divas Angie Stone, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Tweet, Brownstone’s Nicci Gilbert and SWV’s Lelee Lyons.
