SWEET FREEDOM

Described as a free jazz group driven by an experimental punk mentality, the hotly tipped US quintet Irreversible Entanglements has today announced its alliance with the iconic Impulse! record label. The first fruit of their relationship is a stunning single ‘Free Love,’ which is released today. An exciting collision of mesmerizing spoken word vocals, blaring horn fanfares, and turbulent rhythms, the single is a taster from the band’s eight-track debut album Protect Your Light, due for release on 8th September.

The band, which previously recorded two albums for International Anthem, comprises poet and vocalist Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother, who has enjoyed a separate solo career), bassist Luke Stewart, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, saxophonist Keir Neuringer, and drummer Tcheser Holmes.

Their debut album for Impulse! was recorded in one of jazz’s most iconic studios: the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where many classic Impulse! albums from the 1960s and ‘70s were cut.

Says Dahlia Ambach-Caplin, SVP A&R and Artist Development at Impulse!/Verve Label Group: “We are thrilled to welcome Irreversible Entanglements to the Impulse! Family. Their music is not only brilliant but also courageous and contemporary. Protect Your Light embodies so much of Impulse!’s history while also looking unassailably forward as well.”

Irreversible Entanglements are scheduled to perform at the London Jazz Festival on November 15th, 2023.

Protect Your Light is released on Impulse! Records on September 8th, 2023
