Treats a-plenty await fans of Motown’s premier male and female groups – THE TEMPTATIONS and THE SUPREMES – as new CDs and DVDs come onto the market just in time for Christmas. Both legendary groups are celebrating their 50th anniversary so what better way to celebrate than with insightful snapshots of their golden era – the 60s!
First up, Universal’s Import Music Service has just released both Diana Ross & the Supremes / 50th Anniversary: The Complete Singles 1961-1969, and The Temptations / 50th Anniversary: The Complete Singles 1961-1971. The former is a 3 CD box set that features every A and B side of the 60s – covering the era when they were know at Hitsville as “the no hit Supremes”, through their 12 no. 1 hits and onto the decade ending smash ‘Someday We’ll Be Together’. The latter is also a 3 CD box and again all the As and Bs are in there while the digital version features the Soundtree Remix of ‘Power’ which was used in a recent Blackberry TV ad campaign.
Complementing the above CD releases will be two DVDs – The Best of The Temptations on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Best of The Supremes on The Ed Sullivan Show … both available now. They feature iconic appearances of the groups on the groundbreaking American Sunday night programme. All footage was taped live between 1964 and 1971, and it’s all been fully restored with the addition of some never before released items.
