Latest focus track from ANDY AND THE BIG FUNK’S ‘Funksploitation’ album (above) is a faithful and tough rendition of dear Curtis’ classic ‘Superfly’.
You’ll remember that the band is just one many varied projects headed up by sometime Abbey Road studio engineer Andrew Wood Mitchell and that ‘Funksploitation’ is a heart-felt delivery of what Andrew calls “ Seventies Blacksploitation film music and the like”. Because of his connections all the music was recorded at, yes – you guessed, Abbey Road!
Amongst the other tracks on the album are covers of Smokey Robinson’s ‘Hip Trip’, Bobby Womack’s ‘Across 110th Street’, Alicia Key’s ‘Empire State Of Mind’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’!
