OMAR COLEMAN is a Chicago-based blues vocalist and acclaimed harmonica player. For his latest project, he’s teamed up with The New Mastersounds’ guitarist, bandleader, and producer Eddie Roberts for a long player, ‘Strange Times’ due August.
In the meantime, Roberts’ label, Color Red has just released the lead single – the album’s title track. Sonically, ‘Strange Times’ is a classic modern soul/blues with Coleman’s vocal pitched midway between Muddy Waters and Bobby Bland. The backing is brash and brassy and the Coleman’s harmonica work is peerless.
Coleman says that the song (indeed the whole album) is about “the bizarre state of America amidst the COVID-19 pandemic” and if modern blues is your thing, then ‘Strange Times’ comes highly recommended.
