Those who long for some proper, grown up, smooth soul could do a lot worse than check out a new EP from Detroit soulstress and song writer DEE DEE DAVIS. Her latest mini album is ‘Straight From My Soul’ and that title couldn’t be more appropriate. Dip in anywhere and hear a kind of soul that sadly isn’t being made too often these days. Produced by smooth jazz keyboardist Bob Baldwin, it’s sophisticated and reeks of real class. US soul commentators have already compared Dee Dee’s sound and style with Anita Baker … hardly surprising, Michael J Powell is involved in the project!
It’s hard to pick a highlight here; every track offers something special and the experience Ms Davis gained on the Detroit club scene is self evident. She also grew up living next door to Aretha Franklin’s family!
