STILL DOWN TO EARTH …

By common consent one of last year’s best albums was ‘Still Ridin’ High’ from UK duo, DOWN TO EARTH – Laurence Thomas Williams (“call me Lol”!) and Stevie Paul. Lol handles the vocals  while Stevie is an ace guitarist.

Though Down To Earth is a new (ish) concept, Lol and Stevie  won’t mind us calling them soul veterans and all that experience shone through in that ‘Still Ridin’ High’ album.  No wonder the album topped all the credible UK soul charts and tracks were regularly rotated on all the best soul stations.

The good news is that the album is about to be re-issued on vinyl via Izipho Records on February 25th. Over the two sides, the release splits the music into up-tempo grooves and more mellow moments – a nice touch, echoing some classic soul vinyl releases of yester year!

To fit on the vinyl 12”,  two tunes have been dropped from the original release – ‘For You’ and the dance mix of ‘Naturally’ –  that one always sounded out of kilter with the rest of the album anyway. Focus track for the vinyl album’s promo is ‘I Promise’ – a soulful groove  with an EWF feel to the harmonics.
