One of 2015’s most controversial long players was KIRK FRANKLIN’S ‘Losing My Religion’. Gospel purists and commentators wasted an awful lot of time (and plenty of hot air) debating just exactly what Kirk’s message was….. had he lost his religion and if so why was he still making a gospel album? etc etc etc….
Whatever, the more discerning soul crew plundered the album for the lovely, stately dancer ‘Wanna Be Happy’ and now the impressive tune is being resurrected via a sweet, pacey remix from DJ Spen. Spen and long-time collaborator Gary Hudgins give the song a kind of Sounds of Blackness makeover and even if you don’t dig the message, if you have soul you’ll dig the ambience, the beats and the optimism.
