‘Stations’ is the latest album from Swedish jazz vocalist VIKTORIA TOLSTOY (yes, she is related to Leo… she’s his great granddaughter!). Viktoria is considered to be one of the most successful singers on the Nordic jazz scene and the new 11 tracker will only add to her reputation.
The repertoire on ‘Stations’ is a mix of original compositions alongside a clutch of eclectic covers…none more so than a sombre cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Million Miles’. Amongst the other covers are versions of Nat Adderley’s ‘The Old Country’ and the standard ‘Poinciana’. Highlight cover, however, is the piano only accompanied visit to Artie Butler’s oft-recorded movie song ‘Here’s To Life’. Ms Tolstoy and pianist Joel Lyssarides deliver maximum poignancy and regret. Amongst the other featured musicians are Krister Jonsson (guitar), Mattias Svensson (bass) and Rasmus Kihlberg (drums).
