SPEAKING DISCO?

Since summer we’ve been hearing about a new album from UK soul vets, THE SOULNATURALS. We were told that the LP was ‘Parlo Discoteca?’ (we think that may mean , do you speak disco?) and the announcement was led off by a single ,  ‘I Found Love In A Discotheque’ – the title of which sort of said it all!. That was followed by a tight, funky dance groove, ‘Parlo Discoteca?’ – the new album’s title track, of course, which is with us in a few days.

The album is the Soulnaturals first album release since 2017, and though summer is now a fading memory, the set is stuffed with feel good summer dancefloor grooves and to help deliver the sound the band have drafted in a selection of exciting new voices from the UK Soul scene – like Streatham Soul Starlet Rosa Levv who fronts ‘Parlo Discoteca?’ and three other tracks. South London’s gravel voiced Chalibrann channels his inner Barry White on ‘I Signed A Contract With My Higher Self’, while Emma May Osei-Lah takes lead on the steady groove that is ‘My Love Is Stronger’. From the US, CeCi Munette fronts the aforementioned ‘I Found Love In A Discotheque’ and  ‘Rise Sister Rise’ while completing the picture, main man Tony Cannan is out there on a brace of tracks.

Tony’s  the mastermind behind the whole album and his experience in the soul/dance world shines through as  does his love and respect for people like Norman Whitfield, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. The album’s out 20th October  via British Soul Standard. .
